Noida: Nine sports academies operating without registration in Greater Noida West were imposed Rs 18 lakh fine.
District sports officer Anita Nagar said the inititutes, all operating out of Gaur City Sports Stadium, are offering skating, shooting, cricket, fitness, lawn tennis, football, basketball, and badminton training. The centres were issued several notices over the last six months, but operators failed to comply with the directives.
"These academies charge substantial amounts for training children. Each academy was fined Rs 2 lakh for failing to obtain the mandatory registration from the sports department. Notices have been issued to the academy and gym operators to pay the fines and register the centres. If they fail to comply, we may shut the centres next," she said.
According to norms, operators of sports academies, swimming pools, shooting ranges, and gym centres in Noida and Greater Noida must register with the deputy registrar and the sports department.
